FAQs – Prices and Policies

Q: What are your prices?
A: As of 2024, our puppies are $2500-$3500. Each litter/puppy will have their price posted with their information on the Current Puppies page. Additional SC tax of 8% added to posted price.
There is also a $100 payment to join our waiting list. This amount is non-refundable, and is NOT applied toward the puppy’s listed price.

Q: What is your guarantee?
A: Please read our entire Guarantee and Contract (posted on its own page).

Q: Do you ship your puppies?
A: No, we do not ship our puppies. Most of our families drive in to meet us locally, while some choose to fly in to Columbia.

Q: Will you bring my puppy to me?
A: We sometimes offer delivery options for an additional fee. Contact us for possible delivery options.

Q: If I send a payment of $100, what does that guarantee?
A: The $100 payment simply reserves a place on our waiting list to choose/be matched with a puppy. That amount is non-refundable, and is not applied toward the posted puppy price.
When we receive your $100 payment, your name will go on our waiting list in the order in which we received each payment. As we have new litters arrive, each family on our waiting list will have the opportunity to choose/be matched with a puppy (usually when they’re around six-eight weeks old).
If you are on our waiting list, please check our website frequently so you can stay informed of any upcoming litters. After puppies are born, their pictures and information will be shared on the current puppies page. Families on our waiting list who may have puppies available to be matched with them will be notified about each litter when those puppies are around three-five weeks old.
PLEASE NOTE: If, for any reason, we have kept your reserved puppy until he or she is nine weeks of age or older, and then you decide to switch to another puppy or wait for a future litter, the reservation/half payment amount you have paid on the original puppy is NOT refundable, and would not be applied to another puppy.

Q: If I am first on the waiting list, does that mean I get first choice of the puppies in a litter?
A: We reserve the option of holding back/directly placing up to two puppies in each litter for any reason. When we receive your $100 payment, your name will go on our waiting list for the next available future litter. Puppies will be matched in the order in which payments are received, unless a specific puppy isn’t a good fit for an approved home. Once you are notified, you must be available to give us your decision of your puppy choice within 24 hours. If we cannot reach you within that time period, we will have to bypass your name and continue with the next family on the waiting list.
Your $100 payment is non-refundable. Please read more about our waiting list/payment policies in the previous question.

Q: What happens if there isn’t a puppy I like in this litter?
A: Your $100 payment is considered valid for any litters we have (*see exception below) WITHIN ONE YEAR from when we receive that payment. If you have not chosen a puppy from one of our litters within a one-year period of when we received your $100 payment, without specific arrangements made otherwise, you will forfeit that amount, and your position on our waiting list.

Q: How do I make a waiting list payment and/or pay for a puppy?
A: A payment of $100 is required to reserve your place on our waiting list, and will not be applied toward the posted price of a puppy. Payments can be made by mailing a check, or payment through Good Dog online. The $100 payment to join our waiting list is non-refundable, and considered valid to reserve that place on our waiting list for up to one year from when the payment is received.
When paying by check or Good Dog, please confirm the address/process with us, as well as approval to join our waiting list.

When you pick out/are matched with your puppy, one half of the balance is due. Final payment (balance plus SC tax) is due by check at least one week in advance, or in cash or by payments through Good Dog (additional fees apply) when you pick up your puppy.
If you are making a payment for a puppy with fewer than two weeks before delivery or pick-up, please contact us to confirm payment arrangements (personal checks will not be accepted unless there is time for the check to clear).

Q: Why do you require a spay/neuter contract?
A: There are a number of benefits to spaying/neutering. In addition to those reasons for spaying/neutering, one of our goals is to help in the process of establishing Cockapoos as a breed. This requires a great deal of education and knowledge concerning breeding in general and Cockapoos in particular, including many genetics issues. Dogs used for breeding should meet the requirements of the Cockapoo standard, and also can have testing done for PRA/PRCD, OFA/CAER, patellas, and DNA.
Read more about the Cockapoo Standard on the American Cockapoo Club website.

Q: What if I want my dog to have a litter of puppies?
A: Cockapoos make wonderful pets, but any particular individual may not be good for breeding. If you are interested in possibly breeding Cockapoos, becoming a Guardian Home can give you a chance to start out with a good breeding dog and determine if breeding is truly for you. Please contact us if you are interested in becoming a Guardian Home. Only local families (within approximately four hours of Columbia) may apply, as we must have access available as needed to both the male and female dogs placed in our Guardian Homes.

Q: Will you sell to a breeder?
A: We are willing to sell to a qualified breeder, at our discretion. Please contact us to find out more about our policy of selling to breeders.

Q: Do you sell puppies to just anyone?
A: Sugar and Spice Cockapoos, LLC, reserves the right not to sell to an individual(s) at our discretion. If we decide not to sell to a buyer because we are not comfortable with a situation, we will refund any monies paid by that individual. We do NOT sell to brokers or pet stores or supply puppies for auctions.
